#58, Dropout
This week in class we discussed the increasing wealth gap between the rich and the poor. In South Korea, more than half the country lives with an income below the average of most developed nations. Worse, the Korean population is aging and many people are being forced to retire without enough money saved for retirement.
In our discussion in class, a college education was most frequently volunteered as the solution to the wealth gap issue. In today's global economy, it may no longer be the best solution. Kanye West, an American hip-hop artist, explores this idea in his first album, The College Dropout.
What is Mr. West's message about college? Use quotes from the two tracks to support your response. Do you agree with his message? Defend your position.
