"The Hermit Kingdom" was a moniker bestowed on Korea based upon its hide-in-my-shell behavior that has been characteristic of the peninsula for centuries. Strict isolationist policies began in the Joseon Dynasty and continue today, albeit less extreme. After the 1988 Seoul Olympics, Korea officially opened its doors to the rest of the world and the number of foreigners more than doubled over the next ten years.
Still, the legacy of Korea's isolationism is clearly apparent today.

Korea's immigrant population constitutes just 2.8% of the total population. Whether or not this is a healthy number is a controversial topic. Last week you were tasked to argue one side of this issue...but what do you personally think about immigration?
