Philanthropy: the desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed esp. by the generous donation of money to good causes

It all began on a dreary Monday in the winter of last year.  A thunderous slam of the door from Roy's classroom brought the CEO running and had the entire academy abuzz.  What had happened to cause such a ruckus?  Who was involved?  Were there any...deaths?

My students were intent that the student population should know what had happened.  Initially, a single article was proposed that would be photocopied and distributed all around the school.  The proposal had everyone's mind ablaze and an eruption of ideas poured out.  Everyone had an opinion about the content, objectives, cost, responsibilities...everything.  From rigorous debate, after weeks of deliberation, the PEAI Prophet was agreed upon in its current form.  This year, we all carry on the tradition of the original authors.

One important part of that responsibility is choosing the official PEAI Prophet charity.  Last year, sales of the newsletter raised over 400,000 won for UNICEF.  Since you have all inherited the responsibility of the newsletter, the choice of charity is yours.

Choose a charity that you believe the PEAI Prophet should support.  Summarize the purpose of the charity (in your own words) and explain why you think it is the best choice.  Next week, you'll have a chance to vote on the charity you believe is most worthwhile.
