  • Complete 2A–2D in Wordly Wise 3000 Book 6.

  • Study for the quiz.

WRITING (30+ min.)

  1. What is the primary conflict in the essay?

  2. Is it an internal or external conflict? Why?

  3. How does the writer build tension or excitement?

  • Complete the Backwards Design worksheet that was handed out in class. Around the central conflict, address the following:

    1. What type of conflict is this?

    2. Who is involved in the conflict?

    3. When and where does the conflict become clear?

    4. What makes the conflict worse/more complicated?

*Since this essay is about a time you were in danger, that danger should be felt by the reader.

NOVEL (0 min.)

  • Novel assignments will begin in February. The first novel is The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom.

  • Complete pp. 212–214 in the grammar packet that was handed out in class. If you do not have the packet, please contact me via email for the PDF.

  • Review your class notes and grammar homework for the test. You should be familiar with the following: common nouns, proper nouns, first words, titles, CamelCase

READING (0 min.)

  • None

DEBATE (30+ min.)

Debate Day 🗣️

The first debate of the year will be held in class. It will be impromptu and based on the homework. The motion, teams, and roles will not be revealed until class time.

  • Complete the Unit Concept Map (p. 4) in Lift 3.

  • Read “What’s Your Group ID?” in Lift 3. You may take notes about article in your debate notebook.

  • Interview a parent, sibling, friend, or peer who is involved in an extracurricular activity (e.g., volleyball, orchestra, art, yoga, coding). Ask them:

  1. Describe the activity you are involved in.

  2. How did they balance their time betwen school, activities, and their personal life?

  3. What advice would they give about time management?

  • Write a summary of the interview (100+ words) in your debate notebook.
