  • Complete 1A–1D in Wordly Wise 3000 Book 6.

  • Study for the quiz.

WRITING (30+ min.)

  1. What is the meaning of the essay title?

  2. Copy a phrase or sentence that you thought was well written or clever. What do you like about it?

  • Create a timeline in your writing notebook that describes a time you were in danger. Include 8 or more ticks in the timeline and write 10+ words per tick.

NOVEL (0 min.)

  • Novel assignments will begin in February. The first novel is The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom.

  • Complete 1E in Wordly Wise 3000 Book 6.

  • Study for the quiz.

GRAMMAR (10+ min.)

  • Complete pp. 201–202, 211 in the grammar packet that was handed out in class. A PDF of the packet may be downloaded HERE.

READING (30+ min.)

Unit 1:

Generations

  • Read Two Kinds (pp. 13–24) in myPerspectives.

  • Address the Close Read tasks on p. 14–15, 17, 20 in the textbook or on sticky notes.

    • Answers should be handwritten.

  • Annotate the text using a highlighter and pencil or pen.

    • Highlighter Color 1: Conflict. Highlight moments of conflict between Jing-mei and her mother.

    • Highlighter Color 2: Personal Connection. Highlight 2+ moments in the story that remind you of your own life, family, or experiences.

    • Pencil/Pen: Write your analysis or interpretation of what you highlighted. Don’t just summarize the words from the text.

DEBATE (10+ min.)

  • Read Introduction (pp. 1–7) in Debating in the World Schools Style: A Guide. A PDF of the reading may be downloaded HERE.

Tests

  • Vocabulary Quiz (short answer, definitions)

    • Lesson 1 (WW 3000 Book 6)
