#219, Excerpt

This week you will read your peers’ Coming of Age essays. In those essays, you share stories and memories from the past two years and how they shaped you into the person sitting in front of the computer at this very moment. Not everyone will read your essay, but here, you have a chance to share an excerpt of your essay with the public. Choose something that is particularly meaningful to you or something you’d just like to get off your chest.

excerpt n. a small part from a film, broadcast, or piece of music or writing

To complete this Journal response, address the following:

  1. Copy and paste an excerpt from your Coming of Age essay. It could be a sentence or a paragraph or a few paragraphs (but not the entire thing).

  2. Write an author’s statement. This could supplement the excerpt you’ve written, provide analysis of its form or structure—really whatever you’d like the reader to know about your excerpt. The author’s statement should be 50 words or more.

  3. Comment on a peer’s response.
