#181, 04.27

April 27, 2018 was a historic moment for the Korean peninsula. The leaders of North and South Korea met amicably on the southern side of the Panmunjom at the Peace House to discuss the denuclearization of Korea and to officially bring an end to the Korean War. Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un both signed a statement in commitment to these goals,

“South and North Korea confirmed the common goal of realizing, through complete denuclearization, a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula"

The summit between the two Koreas was just the first step of many. There are decades of animosity and mistrust that must be overcome. There is a complex web of other parties including the United States and China who must involve themselves. And there is also the lingering question, what next?
