#131, Biographer

biographer

A biography spans the lifetime of a subject's existence.  It combines threads of their life meaningfully to create a coherent whole.  A biography is also inherently biased as it is written by a human.  A biographer cannot possibly include every single event of a person's life, so they must decide, what should I include?  Also, we all interpret events differently which colors the way we write stories.

biographer n. a person who writes an account of someone else's life

This week in class, we conducted group interviews.  You were tasked to dig deeply about one of your peers' lives, gathering information about key moments in their life.  As a biographer, one of your responsibilities is to connect these events so that the story flows naturally.

To complete this week's Journal response, complete the following tasks,

  1. Write a biography of one of your peers.  For this piece,
    • Include information from the three sources you investigated in class: (a) the subject, (b) one of the subject's peers, (c) the subject's family
    • Write with the third person point-of-view (e.g., Marle lived...).
    • Organize the story chronologically and use time order signals to strengthen the coherence of your writing.
  2. Comment on your biographer's response.  You may also comment on other peers' responses.
