#87, Relay

A relay occurs when a group of people perform a task for a period of time and then another takes over for them.  In P.E., many of you may have participated in a relay race in which one person runs a short distance, hands a baton (a short stick) to another person and so on until the race is finished.

For this journal entry we'll do something similar with our writing.  I'll start with a few lines to get the story started.  The next poster will take those lines and continue on with the story.  Write the previous author's name at the beginning of your response so that we can all link the story together (I posted an example).

When I woke up, my room was empty.  The eleven other bunks were made meticulously; the sheets pulled tight, pillows freshly puffed, and the folds of the blankets exactly one foot from the headrests.  The world had order here and it provided me with a deep sense of belonging.  I did not need to fit in, it was as if the world had been fit to me.

Instinctively, I reached under my bunk and searched blindly for my phoenix sphere.  My heart beat always shot up when my hand didn't catch it the first attempt.  Today, discovery came easily.  I tapped it with my thumb, ring finger, and pinky, and warmth shot through my arm and coursed thoughout my body.  I let out a deep sigh and let every part of my body go limp.  I felt whole once again.  Without the sunlight I was so used to on Earth, I found it hard to feel like myself.

The clock over the door menacingly blinked 06:53 in neon green light.  One hour and seven minutes until the ceremony.  One hour and seven minutes to decide...
