#51, Oreo
On June 25, Kraft Company (owner of Oreo) posted this six colored Oreo on their Facebook page. The rainbow cookie was symbolic of the company's support for gay pride. The image has gained more than 150,000 likes, received 20,000 comments, and was reposted all over the web. The LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual) community's voice has been particularly strong in the past weeks.
Although support for Oreo's stance has been strong, several have boycotted Oreo in response to the image.
One Facebook user wrote, “Disgusted with oreos. Being gay is an abmonitation in GOd’s eyes i wont be buying them anymore.” Another wrote, “I'm never eating Oreos again. This is just disgusting,”.
The Oreo incident raises a greater question; do the ethics (perspective) of a company matter to you? If so, does it affect your purchasing decisions? Will you stop buying Oreos because of this image? Defend your position.
Optional: Imagine that Samsung released a rainbow colored Galaxy SIII to support the gay community. Would it affect how you feel about Samsung products?
