  1. How do the writers grab your attention in the introductory paragraphs?

  2. Which of the openings do you like better? Why?

  3. How do the essays end? Do the concluding paragraphs link to the opening in some way? How?

  4. Identify 4+ persuasive devices from one essay: anaphora, loaded diction, rule of three, strong modals, short impact sentences.

  • Complete Activities 6–8 (p. 155) in Great Writing 5.

  • Read chapters 7–8 in Animal Farm.

  • Address the following in full sentences in your reading notebook:

  1. Why do the hens start a rebellion against Napoleon?

  2. How does Napoleon deal with traitors on Animal Farm?

  4. List the series of events at the Battle of the Windmill.
