  1. What details in the explosition of the story indicate why Mr. Sasaki hires Teruo?

  2. Which of the two salesclerks experiences conflict, and why? Explain how personal connections help you identify with Tommy's or Teruo's attitude.

  3. When the author writes that Teruo wilted, what else does the word remind you of? What kind of personal connection could help you understand why Teruo reacts this way?
