The homework for classes from September 1 to 5 is below. Next to each assignment is the recommended amount of time to complete it with proper quality.


PEAI Debate Tournament 2025

Hello debaters! The annual sixth grade PEAI Debate Tournament is just over a month away. The tournament will be held on September 27 (Sat.) from 12:30–7:00 PM at PEAI. Details are below:

Motions
R1 (prepared): Released Sep. 13

Teams
8 teams will be participating in the tournament and each team should consist of 3–4 team members. Space is limited to 2 teams for my classes.

Prizes
🥇: Gold Medal + certifcate + 10,000 won gift card/person
🥈: Silver Medal + certifcate + 5,000 won gift card/person
🥉: Bronze Medal + certificate + 5,000 won gift card/person
MUD (Most Unfortunate Debater, "An awesome debater on a winless team"): certificate + 5,000 won gift card
MFD (Most Funny Debater): certificate + 5,000 gift card

PRESENTATION (60+ min.)

  • Prepare for PK Day! (practice, practice, practice)

  • Complete all 14 slides of your presentation. Bring your presentation file to class: (a) Share it with brendenleeteacher@gmail.com, (b) AirDrop, (c) Bring it on a USB drive. Slide requirements:

    • 1 slide: PNGs only

    • 1 slide: graph or chart

    • 1 slide: quote

    • 1 slide: personal photo with face visible

    • 2 slides (max): GIF or cinemagraph

To set slides to transition automatically:

Keynote: Select all of the slides. Click on the Animate tab. Set “Start Transition” to “Automatically” and “Delay” to 20 seconds.
PowerPoint: Select all of the slides. Click the “전환” tab. Set the timer on the right side labeled “다음 시간후” to 20 seconds.
Google Slides: It is not possible to automatically set the timer for 20 seconds, so presentations will need to be exported as a PowerPoint file.
Canva: Click on a slide. At the top, click the clock icon “Edit timing”. Set the timer to 20 seconds.

Create an informative or humorous chart.

Be creative with personal photos.

Diversity in visuals keeps the audience engaged.

Use PNGs to craft slides uniquely yours.

Choose an impactful quote.

Cinemagraphs create a mood.

Use PNG GIFs as stickers.

Do not use visuals with watermarks.

  • Read chapters 36–39 in Divergent.

  • Address the following in full sentences in your reading notebook:

  1. Write an example of Tris acting out her Abnegation values and Dauntless values in chapters 36 to 39.

  2. Where does Tris go after her mother dies?

  3. Why does Tris return to Dauntless headquarters?

  4. How does Tris’s father die?

  5. During their fight, why does Tris give Tobias the gun?

  • Answer Comprehension Check questions 1–5 (p. 381) in full sentences in your reading notebook.

  • Address the Close Read the Text questions 1–3 (p. 382).

    • Question 2 includes the Close Read tasks on p. 374, 375, 378.
