WRITING (40+ min.)

  1. What is the writer's main idea?

  2. What points does the writer raise to support her points?

  3. Copy a phrase or sentence that you found persuasive. What is persuasive about it?

  4. Copy an effective piece of evidence. What does it prove?

  5. How does the writer use pathos, logos, or ethos to persuade the reader?

NOVEL (30+ min.)

  • Read chapters 3–4 in Animal Farm.

  • Address the following in full sentences in your reading notebook:

  1. What committees and programs does Snowball create?

  2. What happens at the Meetings on Sundays?

  3. Why does the song “Beasts of England” upset humans?

  • Address the Context Clue tasks on p. 184, 186, 189 in the textbook or in your reading notebook.

  • Answer Comprehension Check questions 1–4 (p. 194) in full sentences in your reading notebook.

  • Address the Research to Clarify and Research to Explore questions (p. 195). Each response should be 50+ words.

DEBATE (30+ min.)
Complete this assignment if you did not do so last week.

  • Read All Summer in a Day (pp. 38–45) in Lift 3.

  • Address Understand and Analyze questions 1–6 (p. 46) in full sentences in your debate notebook.

  • Address Share Your Perspective questions 1–2 in full sentences in your debate notebook. Each response should be 50+ words.
